[The others had sound logic for continuing onto Pastoria; even though she was the one to argue against it the most, she understands in the end it was the pragmatic choice. That doesn't mean she's surprised any less when a day later, things still seem to be... Normal. A relief, to be sure. That probably means Team Galactic hasn't found the Lake Guardian yet, right?
She still wishes she could catch a glimpse of Lake Valor. This far away, she's not even sure she'd be able to make anything out, but when they pass another small cliff she decides it can't hurt to try. At the least, maybe she could tell if they're getting close to the next city.
Everything goes smoothly for the first leg of her mountain climbing adventure. As she walks along a cliffside path, she keeps an eye out for trouble, but is somehow completely unprepared when it does find her, in the form a purple blur swooping in like a battle axe out of nowhere. It rushes at her straight on, so fast she jumps. Rin feels it brush past her shoulder, just before a high cry of pain jolts her from her startled stupor.
It’s not her, but her Mienfoo. When Rin turns around, she’s witness to a truly bizarre sight, because what in the world—a strange, bat-like scorpion has attached itself to her starter's face! Sharp pincers grip at the Mienfoo's nose and ears, and it's stung him in the shoulder with its tail-stinger. Almost lazily, it flaps its wings as if it intends to take off, but has scarcely twitched before Rin dashes forward.]
Oh no you don't, you stupid gargoyle— [With a grunt, she pulls at the purple body.] Get off him!
[Her fingers get pinched for her troubles when she tries to pry open its pinchers, and the Gligar reflexively clamps down. Despite appearances, it doesn’t put up much of a fight against her. It’s carnivorous, so it hunts to eat, but it’s not really interested in fighting for its meal. Finding itself yanked off and unceremoniously tossed to the ground, the Gligar shakes its dizzy head, pulls itself up, and… Goes to hop off. Guess it’ll go find an egg or something?
Looking alarmingly unbothered with being poisoned, meanwhile, the Mienfoo brushes himself off and glances at his trainer, only to get a tongue-lashing.]
Don't just let it get away with doing that to you, Capsule Monkey. Stand up for yourself! [...what?] Go give it a good wallop!
[Oh, she just wants him to fight it. Uh. Sure.
The fight is over relatively quickly, though the Mienfoo looks worse for wear for it. Rin decides to give up on the cliff adventure for now; it's not worth risking his health on. It's already starting to get dark. Tutting in concern, she treats her starter quickly and carefully... And then on a whim before she goes, the Gligar as well.]
We went through all of this trouble, it might as well be for something.
[She makes her way back down the cliff with one extra Pokeball on her belt.]
Monkey (Mienfoo)
[A fateful encounter.]
